Patent Landscape Analysis – ATSC 3.0

Total 95 patent statements were found to be declared to ATSC 3.0.

We discovered 95 patent statements declared to ATSC 3.0. Among these, 13 patent statements lacked patent numbers, and one was not publicly available. This led us to focus our analysis on 81 patent statements. After thoroughly removing duplicates, we identified 2552 unique patent families corresponding to all extracted patents.

It was discovered that one patent family had been declared to several specifications. More specifically, 2552 unique patent families were declared in 21 unique specifications. The top five specifications in which unique families were declared the most were A/322, A/331, A/341, A/330, and A/342.

48% of the declared patents originated from US.

The priority countries of declared families were analyzed, and it was found that the majority of patents originate from the United States (US), which accounts for 48% of the market. South Korea (KR) accounts for 35%, followed by Japan (8%) and Europe (5%).

For calculation purposes, the priority country under EP jurisdiction was considered EP only.

We studied the applicants of unique families with the US as a priority country and found that most patent families belong to LG and Samsung.
